It’s not that it was overheating… it was very cold outside, deep winter in vermont. So the poor van wouldn’t get warm enough! The P0128 error code made perfect sense – “your engine’s coolant is not reaching its proper operating temperature within a specified time”. Indicates that the thermostat was not opening and closing properly. Most likely stuck wide open. So I replaced it with a new one. And afterward, the van had proper temperature regulation. And after I saw how perfect the temp was with the aftermarket thermostat, I could see that my gas mileage improved. The factory thermostat never was right.
Stuff I bought:
- Thermostat with housing
- Radiator Coolant Refill Kit
- Mopar OEM Coolant
- OEM Compatible Coolant / Prestone, this is the stuff I used because it was available locally and I was in a hurr – 2013 or newer Chrysler vehicles.
